I'm continuing my blog series on EPC Moms. If you are just joining us, read all about it here and here.
Meet Kate Krull :: I have known of Kate most of my life. Growing up in the same small town, that's just the way things are. I do have to say that I don't know if I would have gotten to know Kate had it not been for EPC Photography. She was 4 grades ahead of me, so in kid time we were never at the same stage of life. Her sister was my age and we all swam together at The Family Pool. Those were my first memories of Kate, a girl I looked up to as a preteen.
Fast forward a decade or so later and my phone rings one day. Kate was pregnant with Lucy and she called me to brain storm about some maternity photos that we never got around to. I was so excited that she called! Once she was born, Kate brought Ella and Lucy in for some sister pics. I remember vividly Kate encouraging me in my business. She was the first one to ever plant the idea of a studio space into my head. I never thought that would be possible for me, but after that day, I began to dream and work towards that goal.
Four years later (in 2011), I was sitting at a table with some friends a Chilli's when one of them got a text that Lucy had a brain tumor. My heart sunk and I didn't believe it. The following days were filled with fervant prayer. The Holy Spirit moved in my heart in a way it never has before. The day of her first surgery, I sat my desk in my new studio crying out to the Lord on her behalf. I felt compelled earlier that day to start a "Pray for Lucy" campaign. It was a supernatural experience. You can read about it here, here, here, here, here. Read about the prayer service here, here, and here. And my reflections one year later and right before Lucy experienced the miracle. I have watched in awe as I've witnessed God heal Lucy and made her stronger. She is a modern day miracle.
I don't believe in coincidences. I believe God has a plan and purpose for those who cross our paths in life. We just have to ask God to allow us to see Him weaving the thread. God spoke ministry through business into my heart years before Lucy was born, He had Kate encourage me in my gift, and then allowed me to minister to them through prayer and in turn my faith was strengthened as I experienced the truth first hand - prayer changes things. I have spent today in reverent reflection clicking through these posts as stones of remembrance of what faith in God can do. Keep praying for Lucy. Keep praying for her family. God has big plans for them that have started as dreams. Pray He will bring clarity and get the glory. So thankful for His healing in Lucy's life.

Name: Kate Krull
Where are you from: Covington
Name of Husband and Kids: Erik, Ella, Lucy and Jack
When was your first EPC experience (year/ages of kids): I had pictures taken of my girls and I when Lucy was roughly 6 months old for the first time with EPC. I also did a few Heritage Day photos and EPC took a picture of my family, my sister and her husband and my brother in the fall of 2006 as a surprise for my parents.
Why did you choose EPC Photography: Emily and I grew up together so I knew her well. After seeing her work online I was impressed with her style. I also love to support local artists and businesses.
Why did you come back a second time: Emily and EPC started the Pray for Lucy campaign after her cancer diagnosis and I have enjoyed allowing Emily to chart Lucy's progress and capture her spirit through photography.
What is your favorite photo that I have taken for you and why: The picture of Lucy holding the "Hope" sign. After all that Lucy has been through she has never given up hope. None of us have; not even our friends or community. When I look at that picture I am reminded how sick she was but the glimmer of hope in her eyes never disappeared .
Do you have a funny memory or story from your session or positive experience to share about your session: I think trying to take the "Hope" picture with the winds blowing a million miles away and Lucy trying to hold on to a bundle of balloons!
Do you have a business, charity, or cause you are passionate about: The Go Lucy Go Foundation - The Go Lucy Go Foundation is dedicated to serving children and families facing the diagnosis of a brain tumor, providing comfort and support as they face the most important fight of their lives. The Foundation has made gifts that touch every level of patient experience and has also supported hospital operations. The goal of the organization is to support families in times of medical crisis.
