God's word will not return to Him empty

I heard this song today and thought of you.

Isaiah 55:10-11

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Job Believed in Jesus

Did you catch in yesterday's reading that Job looked forward to the Redeemer and even the resurection of the dead in Christ?

Job 19:25-27

“But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last. And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God! I will see him for myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought!"

Yes, Job, I, too, am overwhelmed at the thought of meeting my Savior face to face and even more overwhelmed that I will be resurected one day with a body that is imperishable (1 Corinthians 15:54). But, the thing is, I have heard the gospel. I know Jesus lived and what He did for me. Job, at that time did not have that information.

Before I read the Bible cover to cover, I always wondered how people in the Old Testament were "saved" or redeeemed or in my own lingo at the time "got to heaven." Just like Abraham, Job's faith was credited to him as righteousness. The people in the Old Testament looked forward to the cross for redemption just like we look back to the cross for redemption. They trusted God with the promise of the Redeemer (Jesus) that He gave back in the garden of Eden. Remember in Genesis 3: "He (Jesus) will crush your head, and you (Satan) will strike his heel.”

So, as you read, I want to encourage you to seek out that redemptive thread. Look for Jesus in every story. You will find Him there if you look hard enough. Your table leaders will be asking you questions that will help you see the thread of redemption in the Bible as we read through this year. Everyday, after you've read, ask yourself, what did that tell me about God?

I want to encourage you as you read. I know it can sometimes be tough, but stay the course and you will be rewarded with something that cannot be taken away from you. I am praying for you to hear from God, that you'll know His voice, and He will show you your place in His story.

Leadership Meeting this Thursday at 6:30

We will be needing facilitators to lead tables each Tuesday night for our small group time. You will need a basic understanding of God's word and will be responsible for keeping your table on topic with the questions from our workbooks. If you feel God is leading you to do this, please join us on Thursday night at Covington First Assembly's Family main building cafe area. I will say, for me, it has been easier to have the actual Chronological Bible with each day broken down. It's easy to pick up and make notes in each day. I hope this helps you get your reading jumpstarted this week. It's been wonderful to reread about creation, the fall, and redemption provided for us by God through Jesus from the very beginning of time.

An Invaluable Resource

I have found this to be an invaluable resource and companion to my Chronological Bible. It's great to look up parts of the text you don't understand as you read each day. You can purchase it online at amazon.com or a bookstore.

Bibles

You can purchase your Chronological Bible from Covington First Assembly of God's church office for $11. Remember, you'll start your readings on Sunday, so don't delay. If you can't run by there, you can purchase on Amazon.com or most any bookstore. 

The first semester starts Jan. 10 and will run through mid March. We hope to see you at 6:30 on the 10th at Covington First Assembly's Family Life Center! : )

What: Tipton County Chronological Bible Discipleship for Women

When: Tuesday Evenings, 6:30-8:30 beginning January 10 (Childcare Provided)

Where: Covington First Assembly of God Family Life Center, 1861 Hwy 51 S. (901-476-9592)

Who: Senior High Girls through Senior Adult Women (Titus 2)

What You'll Need:

 

A One Year Chronological Bible (Can be purchased at amazon.com (for $13.58) or other book retailer). You'll need to begin reading on January 1 if possible, so pick up a copy before the new year if you can.

2. CBD Small Group Discipleship Edition (Book): Can be purchased at bellevue.org, the Bellevue Bookstore, 2000 Appling Rd., Cordova or you can purchase your copy on the first night of our study. You won't need this until Jan. 10.

What to Expect: Lori Hawkins will be teaching us through W3 (Women, Worldview, and The Word) curriculem in a corporate setting. At the end of her teaching each week we will have discussion at our tables with our small groups using the small group discipleship workbooks.

Many of those who love the Bible cannot tell its story. 

Understanding the story of the Bible resembles the assembly of a puzzle. 

The picture on the puzzle box provides the enticement for assembling the pieces found inside the box. Assemblers begin by connecting the straight edges and corners to form the framework for the remaining pieces, then they coordinate these pieces by color and then begin assembling the puzzle. We’ve not done that with Bible study!

Many women know the books of the Bible and even know a few of the books it contains well, but they cannot tell the story it tells. Without the cover and the straight edges of the puzzle the various pieces cannot be fully appreciated.

Chronological Bible Teaching is not your basic fill-in-the-blank Bible study. CBT is designed to:

• Expand Biblical worldview
• Develop self-feeders
• Equip reproducers

• How they can join Him

Chronological Bible Teaching gives women the overall story of the Bible (picture on the front of the box) and the chronology of the story (the straight edges and the corners of the puzzle).
